Medieval Byzantine Chant for Pascha:
The Day of Resurrection
DAY OF RESURRECTION is a program of awe-inspiring psalmody from the Byzantine East that includes the Kontakion of Pascha by St. Romanos the Melodist (6th century), the Paschal Canon by Saint John of Damascus (8th c.), and virtuosic compositions by masters of the Byzantine imperial court, including John Kladas (1380-1420) and Manuel Chrysaphes (1430-1470). Day of Resurrection was recorded by Psaltikon in 2016 in Boston, presenting for the first time in the modern era the soundscape of the services of the Resurrection as they may have been heard in medieval Byzantium and its periphery.
